We're blessing the baby!

We are packing our bags (what a task!) and heading to Utah tomorrow - and we're really excited to show off our little babe to family and friends!  We also wanted to let you know that we will be blessing Lois Ada this Sunday, August 31st.  So if you're in town and would like to come, please do!  We'd love to see you!!

When: August 31, 2008, 9 am
Where:  Parley's Sixth Ward Chapel
2330 South 2100 East, Salt Lake

Wish us luck traveling with Lois...I've been mentally preparing myself for this moment since we decided to bless her in Utah.  While I'm inclined to pack everything but the kitchen sink...

Hmm...wish me luck.   :-)

LIGHTS OUT...

What happens when your power goes out for an extended period of time?  Two bored parents, one hot naked baby and lots of pictures!

On Wednesday night we had the worst monsoon storm hit us since we moved to Tucson and power lines and trees fell in abundance.  Consequently, our power went out around 8pm and was out for the next 36 hours.  Apparently, there were about 25 poles that cracked or fell over and there was nearly a 5 mile square that was out of power for that period of time.  In any case, after one night in a hot, humid apartment, our friends let us stay at their house until our power came back on.  Thanks, Addie and Cameron.  You guys are life savers.  Seriously.  We would have melted!!

The following are a result of us having a really cute baby and nothing better to do than to take lots of pictures of her.

This is a newer face Lois is making these days - a big smile!

Doesn't this just make you wanna squeeze her to death because she's so cute?

This is her i'm-not-so-sure-about-this face.  Look at that double chin, baby!

This is Lois' CLASSIC face.  She's such a serious little wee.

Surprised look...

...and her looking-over-the-shoulder-angry face = mom and dad, this is NOT amusing anymore.

I mean really.  I love this girl.

Thanks for coming on this power outage amusement ride with us.
Another LADY for the Smith Family!!

My brother Jordan got engaged this week to Kelly and they'll be getting married in October!  I'm so excited to have another pretty lady in the family.  I thought I'd died and gone to heaven when Tandi came to our family (a sister, at last!)...then came Stella and then Lois...and now Kelly!  YEAH!  Soon, women will finally dominate the Smith family!!  :-)

I just want Jordan to know how happy I am for him to have finally found his beautiful eternal companion, and want Kelly to know how excited I am to have her as a sis-in-law!  We can't wait to see you guys!  Congratulations!!!!!  We love you.

Isn't she just as cute as a button?

The blessed & handsome couple on the left  (and me when I was VERY pregnant. yikes.)

My bag weighs how much?

I love to travel.  However, travel entails a huge roadblock for me = PACKING.  Why, oh why, is packing so hard for me??!?  You see, I'm what some might call a "mood dresser."  Any of you who are familiar with Seinfeld know what I am talking about.  There's an episode where Jerry invites George to go to California for a very short, two-day trip.  Jerry packs a modest carry-on, while George brings three giant bags.  Jerry is super perplexed by this and asks him what the heck he's doing - at which point George explains to him that he's a mood dresser and needs to have all options because he won't know what mood he'll be in on a certain day, so he's basically packed his entire wardrobe for a two-day trip.

While this is somewhat of an exaggeration, an episode has never rung truer to me than this one did.   THIS IS ME.  I am NOT a minimalist and this fact makes packing really difficult for me.  To give you an idea, here's my packing regimen:  I lay out nearly my entire wardrobe and then slowly take away things I feel, at that moment, I can live without for the duration of my trip.  I then start thinking about shoes.  What the!?$?  How am I supposed to widdle these down?  Different shoes go with different outfits, and how am I supposed to know what to bring if I am not sure what I am going to want to wear that day?  Let me tell you, this is my form of torture.  I pick everything I want to take and then purge.  I never get more than two hours of sleep before a big trip, because this purging process usually takes me ALL NIGHT.  I then pack what I have on my bed into a suitcase and delight in the fact that I have extra space.  I proceed to cram a few more once-purged items back into my suitcase to the point that the suitcase is verging on crammed.  Now I don't have any extra space and resort to sitting on the darned thing to zip it shut.  Even after the suitcase is shut, I still try to slip a shirt or two in the front pocket of the stupid thing.  And what about all my toiletries?  Blow dryer?  I need this space for clothes!  This means that I have to take at least two bags.  I can't give up space in my main suitcase for toiletries.  This is my precious space that will result in moods over the next x amount of days.

You would think the saga ends there, but it doesn't.  Once I get to where I am going and am trying to get dressed for the day, the regret sets in and I start thinking about all the aforementioned purged items from my suitcase that I now want to wear at that moment.  I don't want to wear anything that I have packed - it's all ugly to me and I end up not wearing any of it, just wishing for the stuff I have left behind.

This, in part, makes packing more difficult the next time around because I remember how frustrating it was to not have something with me, thus ending up having to wear something that I didn't want to.  There's nothing worse then feeling unattractive.  Am I right, ladies?  Result?  An okay day with the undertone of ugliness.  Sigh. Never mind that I could be in Italy or someplace fantastic.  If a girl feels ugly, the world just ain't right.  Why, oh packing universe, do you have to be against me so?

I know, I'm sick.  I have problems.  But what's a girl to do?  So, I'm throwing the question out to the blogosphere: Am I crazy or does this sound a bit familiar to you out there?

We are going to Utah for a pretty lengthy trip at the end of this month and this dreaded task is creeping up on me.  This time I not only have to pack for me, I have to pack for Lois.   Double the trouble.  I do find comfort in the fact that Lois' clothes are so tiny and they don't take up much space at all.  This has got me thinking...someone needs to invent a machine that can shrink clothes to baby size - just for traveling purposes - and once you have reached your destination they become your size again.  This would be a dream come true!  Just imagine the possibilities!  I could bring whatever the heck I wanted and not feel remorse about leaving something behind or remorse for not being able to pack a normal amount of clothing.  Problem solved.

Until my travel clothes shrinker comes in the mail in 2000-never, I'm just going to try to pack like a normal person.  Because I've been hearing some nasty rumors about $50 to check a second bag onto an airplane.  Ahh crap.  There goes my toiletries...

Yes, I need help.  I need to join over-packing anonymous.  Anyone know where I can find such a group or do I need to become president?  Hi.  My name is Lilianne Wright.  I have a over-packing problem.  Response:  Hi, Lilianne.  Welcome.
TWO MONTHS OLD

Before calling the authorities upon looking at this picture, let me explain.  It is Lois' two-month birthday and the good parents we are, we celebrated it by taking Lois to get her two-month shots.  Needless to say, it was not a good day for mom and not a good for baby (probably much worse for me than her!)

Poor little chubby legs... :-(

What part of "do you want to hold your baby down?" sounds appealing?  HUH?  Well, let me think.  None. Of. It.  I made Jason do the dirty work of holding her down while I was cringing in the corner of the room.  Poor thing was wailing for about two minutes straight and then whimpered for another five.  She's now sleeping away and I'm hoping that she's not scarred for life because of this horrific, yet necessary event.  Anyway, we survived the first round and I'm already dreading her four-month visit.  More shots and no daddy to come and do the dirty work for me next time.  This is going to take some serious mental preparation.  Seriously.

In any case, here are Lois Ada's two-month stats.  She is a chunky monkey for sure.  Can you tell from the pictures?  She's super long and very hearty!!

HEIGHT:  25 inches long - 99th percentile
WEIGHT: 14 lbs, 3 oz - 99th percentile
HEAD SIZE:  15.2 inches - 50th percentile

Dr. Kopas said that there really isn't a 100th percentile, so the fact that she's 99th percentile means that she's basically the biggest of the big.  Way to go, little one.  We're so proud of you!!
SOME SERIOUS BED HEAD...

This is what happens when you put an already wild-haired baby to bed with wet hair.  Whoa.

She is not happy about it.

OUR FUTURE DOCTOR...

In April, Jason's high school friends - Jen, Katie, Allison, Paul and Rex (I think that's all of them) gave Lois these cute doctor greens so she could dress like her doctor dad.  They finally fit and they are so cute on her!  Thanks, guys for the awesome gift.  We love them.  Hopefully she'll still fit them in October (fat chance, but we can wish, right?) so she can wear them as her Halloween costume.

Lois and her happy mom!

Like father, like daughter!

This is her laying down the law during one of her nights at the hospital...

...and this is her after being on call all night at the hospital.

Boy, I sure do love this girl.
